Jones to speak at LR TD Club

Dallas Cowboys Executive Vice President and Chief Brand Officer Charlotte Jones Anderson will be the guest speaker today at the Little Rock Touchdown Club’s luncheon at the Embassy Suites in west Little Rock.

Jones Anderson, the daughter of Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones, is a graduate of Little Rock Central High School and also president of the Gene and Jerry Jones Family Foundation.

Lunch will be served at 11 a.m. and the program will start at 11:50. Admission is $20 for members and $30 for non-members.

ASU break out for victory

Carman Simon and Ava Abner each scored two goals to help Arkansas State to its largest scoring output since 2004 in an 8-0 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday in Jonesboro.

Simon scored ASU’s final two goals in the 62nd and 83rd minutes. Abner’s goals came less than a minute apart, with her first coming in the 37th minute, and she scored again 40 seconds later to give ASU (3-6) a 4-0 lead.

Jenna Duerst, Jordan Adams, Sutton Webster and Crystal Zeledon each added goals and ASU held UAPB (1-7) without a shot on goal.

Hendrix falls on road

Hendrix College gave up four goals after grabbing an early lead in a 4-1 loss to Texas-Dallas on Sunday in Dallas.

Vanessa Franco gave Hendrix (5-4) a 1-0 lead with a goal in the second minute off a free kick. But Hendrix was held scoreless the rest of the game as it gave up goals in the 21st, 36th, 63rd and 68th minutes to Texas-Dallas (6-1).

Jordan Rausch and Michaela Seltzer each gave up two goals for Hendrix. Rausch had nine saves, Seltzer had eight.

ASU gets first Sun Belt victory

Drew Jones had 17 kills to lead Arkansas State to a 25-23, 18-25, 25-22, 25-22 victory over Georgia Southern on Sunday in Statesboro, Ga.

It was the first Sun Belt victory of the season for ASU (6-5, 1-1), while Georgia Southern (0-12, 0-3) remained winless.

Sarah Kemp added 12 kills and 14 digs for ASU, while Mallory Warrington had 10 kills and 42 assists.

TENNIS

Arkansas claims two singles titles

Oleksandra Shkorupeieva and Flavia Araujo each won singles titles for the Arkansas women’s tennis team on Sunday at the Sooner Invite in Norman, Okla.

Shkorupeieva beat Tulsa’s Saana Saarteinen 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 to claim the title in one of four championship brackets at the event. Araujo beat Wichita State’s Luca Pump 1-6, 7-6, 6-3 to win her bracket. Shannon Hudson and Makenzie Craft finished runners-up in their respective brackets.

Munoz falls in consolation rounds

Arkansas junior Santiago Munoz lost in the consolation quarterfinals of the SEC Fall Classic on Sunday in Gainesville, Fla., falling to Tennessee’s Luis Valero 6-2, 6-4 to conclude Arkansas’ participation in the event. Munoz reached Sunday after beating Vanderbilt’s Jeff Offerdahl 6-2, 6-4 on Saturday.

CROSS COUNTRY

UCA finishes seventh in Texas

Central Arkansas’ Jonathan Burgess finished in 11th place with a time of 18 minutes, 48.6 seconds on Sunday at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station, Texas.

Julien Jeandree finished in 29th at 19:17.6 for the Bears, who finished seventh as a team.
