Delegation requests health-exchange rates for ’15

Arkansas' congressional delegation requested from the state insurance commissioner Tuesday the details of how much Arkansans can expect to pay for health insurance bought through the exchange for 2015.

U.S. Reps. Rick Crawford, Tim Griffin, Steve Womack and Tom Cotton, all Republicans, sent a letter to Insurance Commissioner Jay Bradford saying that the rates for plans obtained through the marketplace were expected to have been announced Sept. 10, but prices haven't been released yet.

It is "vital," the representatives say in the letter, that Arkansans "have the information necessary to evaluate which exchange plan best meets their needs and complete their purchase in time to receive health care coverage on January 1, 2015."

They also request information such as rates by insurer, area, age and premium, similar to that provided by the Insurance Commission on Sept. 23, 2013.

In 2014, the average consumer in Arkansas pays a premium of $275 a month for the cheapest available bronze plan, a plan designed to cover 60 percent of a typical patient’s expenses, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette previously reported.
