Lawyer: Jackson Stephens Jr. is plaintiff in wage lawsuit

LITTLE ROCK — The attorney who filed a lawsuit challenging a ballot measure that would gradually raise Arkansas' minimum wage says the plaintiff in the case is Little Rock businessman Jackson T. Stephens Jr.

David Sterling said Tuesday that the lawsuit filed a day earlier incorrectly referred to the plaintiff as "Jackson Thomas Stevens Jr." The lawsuit asks the state Supreme Court to remove from the November ballot a proposal that would gradually raise Arkansas' minimum wage from $6.25 an hour to $8.50 by 2017.

The suit claims the state used the wrong deadline in accepting petitions, and also challenges the validity of the signatures submitted. Election officials certified the measure for the ballot earlier this month. Stephens is board chairman of the conservative Club for Growth and is the son of Jackson T. Stephens Sr., the co-founder of investment firm Stephens Inc.
