Head-on wreck kills 1, hurts 3 in Fordyce

A 76-year-old passenger was killed and three people were hurt in a head-on collision in Fordyce on Monday night, Arkansas State Police said.

Authorities say a 2003 Chevrolet truck was southbound on Calhoun County Road 85 when it veered out of control in a curve, overcorrected and swerved back across the centerline, hitting a northbound GMC truck head-on.

Ruth J. Boney, a passenger in the GMC from Fordyce, suffered fatal injuries. Both drivers and a passenger in the Chevrolet were taken to the Dallas County Medical Center in Fordyce for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Conditions at the time of the collision were said to be clear and dry.

The death was the 320th fatality in a traffic crash in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
