The Arkansas Department of Human Services said Tuesday that Division of Youth Services Director Tracy Steele plans to resign effective Oct. 31 “to take advantage of a career opportunity that he will announce at a later date.”

Steele, a former state legislator, was hired as director in July 2013 to replace former Director Ron Angel. Human Services Deputy Director Keesa Smith will serve as interim director as the department searches for Steele’s replacement.

The division oversees youth detention centers, treatment centers and community-based programs.
