LITTLE ROCK — Attorney General Dustin McDaniel says the secretary of state's office will argue for upholding the state's voter-ID law when the case goes before the Arkansas Supreme Court.
McDaniel on Wednesday announced that he agreed to yield the argument time to Secretary of State Mark Martin's office. Justices are set to hear oral arguments in the case Oct. 2.
McDaniel, a Democrat, represents the state Board of Election Commissioners in the case. Martin is a Republican.
The state has appealed Pulaski County Circuit Judge Tim Fox's ruling in May that the voter-ID law, which was approved last year, is unconstitutional. Fox suspended his ruling, meaning the law is still in effect.
Early voting for the November election begins Oct. 20.
