North Little Rock police are investigating after a trailer holding merchandise and equipment for the four-mile Conquer the Gauntlet race was broken into Monday night.
Organizers were in Little Rock on Saturday for the obstacle race, and the break-in cost them a little more than $3,000 in lost equipment, according to a North Little Rock police report.
Two generators, two Snap-On impact guns, a saw, two drills, and a knight statue were reported stolen from the trailer, according to police. David Mainprize, the owner of Mainprize Industries LLC, which organizes Conquer the Gauntlet, reported the break-in Tuesday morning, saying it must have occurred sometime between 6 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday.
The police report said two locks were cut from the trailer’s doors and officers lifted fingerprints off the trailer.
Mainprize told officers he had hired people he found on the online classifieds site Craigslist to help him load the truck after completing the race Saturday in Little Rock and that he didn't know their names.
Conquer the Gauntlet has begun an online fundraising effort to recoup money for the items stolen. They are hoping to raise $10,000.
“We aren't big fans of handouts, but due to the outpouring of support, we will accept donations up to the amount lost,” their Facebook page said Wednesday. It wasn't clear how organizers arrived at the $10,000 goal.
Little Rock was the last stop on the race's schedule until next summer.
Conquer the Gauntlet started three years ago in Tulsa. Since its debut, the race has expanded to four locations; Oklahoma City, Okla.; Kansas City, Kan.; Tulsa.; and Little Rock. They have a following of more than 20,000 people on Facebook.
