A FAIR TO REMEMBER

Faux fair's food, fun, auction pull in $89,000 for Hospice

Cotton candy, popcorn, balloons, and a midway with games and prizes created the perfect atmosphere for A Fair to Remember on Sept. 18 at the Metroplex.

Guests could win tickets for prizes on the midway, which included the familiar test-of-strength game involving swinging a heavy mallet and trying to ring a bell. There was also a wine pull, a photo booth, a spin-to-win game and music by the B-Flats. A "petting zoo" was filled with therapy dogs large and small.

Craig O'Neill served as auctioneer for a live auction that included a gold and diamond bracelet, a Vespa scooter, a cruise for eight couples on the Arkansas River and four tickets to a Chicago Cubs home game. The buffet dinner featured pork loin from Petit Jean Meats with sides by Whole Hog Cafe.

The evening was a benefit for Arkansas Hospice's charity care, which provides end-of-life care regardless of ability to pay. The event raised more than $89,000 with 575 guests in attendance, according to Donald Wood, executive director of the Arkansas Hospice Foundation.
