Crews to limit traffic on Interstate 49

LOWELL — Arkansas highway crews will reduce traffic to one lane along Interstate 49 in Benton County this coming weekend to accommodate the future widening of the roadway.

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said Tuesday that traffic near Lowell will be shifted to new lanes in each direction. The work is being done in a 2.6-mile stretch of the highway between Wagon Wheel Road and Arkansas 264.

The lane closures will begin at 8:30 p.m. Friday and be completed by Monday morning.

Another traffic shift is expected in the area the weekend of Oct. 17-19.

State highway department data show that more than 70,000 vehicles use that portion of Interstate 49 on an average day.
