Man convicted in 2013 Logan County killing

A Logan County Circuit Court jury convicted 54-year-old Harry Bodine on Tuesday of first-degree murder in the May 13, 2013, shooting death of Joe Stapleton at his father's rural Paris home.

The jury of 10 men and two women deliberated for about 90 minutes before returning with the guilty verdict. The jury also convicted Bodine of hindering apprehension, a felony. They were deliberating on his sentence as of 1 p.m.

Bodine was accused of shooting Stapleton outside Stapleton's father's home, where he also lived, after Bodine and his brother Brett, 53, drove there to talk to Stapleton.

Bodine said he shot Stapleton when Stapleton tried to attack him, but the state argued that Bodine sought out Stapleton with the intent to kill him.
