Texas teen pleads guilty to shooting classmate

TEXARKANA, Texas — A Texas teenager who says he accidentally shot and killed a fellow high school football player has pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide.

The Texarkana Gazette reported that 19-year-old Aaron Conkleton pleaded guilty Monday to killing teammate Semaj Williams in August 2013.

Police say Williams stopped to visit Conkleton, who was working at a New Boston car wash. They say Conkleton took a gun from the car and shot Williams. Conkleton told police he didn't know the gun was loaded.

A prosecutor says William's family wanted the case resolved with a plea agreement that includes the possibility of probation for Conkleton. The family says he is truly apologetic.

Attorneys have agreed to a tentative agreement that includes five years of probation and an undetermined fine.

Sentencing will be in October.
