EUREKA SPRINGS — The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission are seeking information on the shooting of a bald eagle near Beaver Lake.
The bird was found dead on March 9 in the Hogscald Hollow area of the lake. The Game and Fish Commission said evidence at the scene indicates the eagle was killed with a rifle on March 8 or 9.
A reward of up to $6,000 is being offered for information leading to a conviction in the case.
Bald eagles are no longer listed as an endangered species, but are still federally protected by both the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
Anyone convicted in the case could face up to a year in prison and fines totaling $115,000.
