FANTASY DRAW

The top three finishers from the Grade III Honeybee Stakes, two shippers from noted southern California stables and two shippers from Florida, including one from the powerful Todd Pletcher barn, are part of an 11-horse field entered to run in Saturday's Grade III $400,000 Fantasy Stakes. The Fantasy, which will be the ninth race on Saturday's 10-race card, is scheduled to go to post at 5:09 p.m. and kicks off the Racing Festival of the South. The 1-2-3 finishers from the March 7 Honeybee Stakes -- Sara Sis, Oceanwave and Pangburn -- drew posts 1, 10 and 7. Pletcher is shipping in Feathered, who ended her 2-year-old season with a second-place finish to 2-year-old filly champion Take Charge Brandi in the Grade I Starlet at Los Alamitos in southern California. Feathered finished fourth in her March 6 comeback race at Gulfstream Park but has recorded two works since for Pletcher and will be ridden by Ricardo Santana, Jr., Oaklawn's leading jockey. Trainers Jerry Hollendorfer and John Sadler are sending in two contenders who have been training at Santa Anita Racetrack in Arcadia, Calif. Achiever's Legacy (Hollendorfer) is coming off a fourth-place finish in the Feb. 28 Santa Ysabel Stakes. Sadler will be represented by lightly raced Lady Tapit, who hasn't run since breaking her maiden Dec. 12 at Los Alamitos but has posted 11 workouts since that race. The rest of the field includes four local runners: Sweet Opportunity, Harlan's Belle, Purr and Super Saks. Sweet Opportunity edged Harlan's Belle in a March 13 allowance race; Purr and Super Saks finished off the board in the in the Honeybee Stakes. The 11th runner is Include Betty, a two-time winner at Tampa Bay Downs who is coming off a fifth-place finish in the Grade III Tampa Bay Oaks on the turf March 7 for trainer Tom Proctor.

WEDNESDAY'S STARS

Trainer Steve Asmussen became the second North American trainer to win 7,000 races when first-time starter Our Adieu won the first race and Drama Coach completed the early daily double. Both horses went off as the betting favorites and were ridden by leading jockey Ricardo Santana Jr. Asmussen might have 7,000 North American victories, but he did not gain any ground in his quest for a seventh Oaklawn training title because Chris Hartman also won two races and maintained a 27-22 lead over Asmussen with seven racing days remaining.

FINAL FURLONG

Veteran Oaklawn trainer Stanley Roberts won his first race of the meet when Devilishly Clever ($13.80) won the fourth race, a $7,500 claimer for Arkansas-bred nonwinners of two lifetime. Roberts has started 38 horses at the meet with one victory, one second-place finish and four third-place finishes. ... The Truth Or Else, second-place finisher in the Feb. 22 Southwest Stakes and fourth-place finisher in the March 14 Rebel Stakes, breezed 5 furlongs in 58.80 seconds Wednesday under Calvin Borel. Trainer Ken McPeek told the Oaklawn Park publicity department that The Truth Or Else, who worked in blinkers, will wear blinkers in the April 11 Arkansas Derby, his next scheduled start. McPeek said The Truth Or Else, assuming the weather is good, will have an "easy" work Tuesday morning. ... Trainer Steve Asmussen told the Oaklawn media department that last year's 3-year-filly champion Untapable and multiple stakes winner Tapiture remain under consideration for the Grade I $600,000 Apple Blossom Handicap for older fillies and mares April 10 and the Grade II $600,000 Oaklawn Handicap for older horses April 11, respectively. Asmussen said he will evaluate weight assignments for both horses before making a decision on remaining at Oaklawn or pointing both for races early next month at Churchill Downs. Oaklawn racing secretary Pat Pope is scheduled to release weights for the Apple Blossom and Oaklawn Handicap Saturday. Asmussen said Bold Conquest is still scheduled to make his next start in the Arkansas Derby. ... Bridget's Big Luvy, trained by Jeremiah Englehart, was scheduled to arrive Wednesday for the Arkansas Derby. Bridget's Big Luvy, a late Triple Crown nominee, won the $100,000 Private Terms Stakes March 21 at Laurel. ... Prominent Arkansas automobile dealer Steve Landers now has his horses in training with Brad Cox. Cody Autrey had been training Landers' horses.
