Author Reading, Book Signing

CONWAY — University of Central Arkansas writing professor Mark Spitzer will debut his new book, Return of the Gar, with a reading and book signing at 7 p.m. at the Faulkner County Library, 1900 W. Tyler St. Copies of the book will be available for purchase, and the free event is open to the public and suitable for all ages. The book focuses on the 2012 Mayflower oil spill, which Spitzer uses as a metaphor for challenges that both humans and gar fish face during a time of environmental crisis. God of Carnage Benefit Performances

CONWAY — The Conway Community Arts Association and the Lantern Theatre will present two benefit performances of God of Carnage at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Lantern Theatre, 1021 Van Ronkle St. Tickets are $10 each, at the door. Reservations are not required. The play is recommended for mature audiences only. Proceeds will fund presenting the play at the Regional VI American Association of Community Theatre’s (AACTFest) competition Wednesday in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Passover Seder

CONWAY — The Mustard Seed Church invites the community to a celebration of a Passover Seder at 6 p.m. at the Faulkner Academy of Arts, 2201 Washington Ave. The menu includes a Seder plate, Matzo ball soup, apricot chicken, spring pea salad, roasted vegetables and cheesecake. Friends of the Library Book Shop

HEBER SPRINGS — The Friends of the Library Book Shop, 2255 Arkansas 25B N., is open from 3:30-7 p.m. Mondays, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays. The shop offers a large selection of books at bargain prices. All proceeds from the shop benefit the libraries in Cleburne County.

Maumelle Newcomers Club Scholarship

MAUMELLE — The Maumelle Newcomers Club is offering a $1,000 scholarship to all eligible residents of Maumelle, as well as immediate family members of Newcomers Club members. Applicants must have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade-point average and cannot be the recipient of a full scholarship. The scholarship is available to those attending a four-year or two-year accredited educational institution or accredited technical college. Graduate and part-time students are also eligible. Applications must be postmarked by April 21 and can be obtained at the Maumelle Public Library or by calling scholarship chairwoman Alice Cleves at (501) 442-3846.

FAIRFIELD BAY— The 22nd annual Fashion Gala, presented by the Xi Gamma Kappa Chapter, will be held at 1 p.m. April 10 at St. Francis Parish Hall, 250 Woodlawn Drive. Mountain Top Cowboy Church Community Horse Show

HEBER SPRINGS — The first Mountain Top Cowboy Church Community Horse Show of the 2015 season will be held April 11 at 45 Heber Springs Road W., at Arkansas 5 and 25. Registration will close at 4:30 p.m., and the show will begin at 5 p.m. The arena is a family-friendly environment, and four age divisions are available for a variety of events. There are no registration fees. The shows are held the first Saturday of each month through September unless the date falls on a holiday weekend. Obtaining Government Certifications Workshop

RUSSELLVILLE — The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center will present How to Obtain Government Certifications for Women-, Disabled-Veteran- and Minority-Owned Businesses from 1-4 p.m. April 14 at Arkansas Tech University. Government contracts are available every year for certified owners of these businesses. Workshop participants will learn about the types of governmental contracts and how to obtain these certifications. There is no cost to attend, thanks to the Arkansas Procurement Assistance Center. Sacred Heart Student Visit Day

MORRILTON — Sacred Heart Catholic School will have a Student Visit Day on April 16 for students entering kindergarten through the 12th grade who have enrolled or are considering enrolling as new students for fall 2015. Kindergartners will meet from 8:15-9:15 or 9:30-10:30; all others can attend a full school day, beginning at 8 a.m. Lunch will be provided. Tee It Up for Literacy Golf Tournament

FAIRFIELD BAY — The Fairfield Bay Library Friends Inc. will sponsor the seventh annual Tee It Up for Literacy Golf Tournament on April 18 at the Indian Hills Golf Course. Keith Monahan, meteorologist at KARK-TV Channel 4 in Little Rock, will be a special guest. Proceeds will benefit the Fairfield Bay Library. Sign-in will begin at 11 a.m., with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The four-person scramble costs $55 per person. The entry deadline is April 16. Saturday’s Fair Fundraiser

RUSSELLVILLE — Saturday’s Fair, a new family-oriented fundraiser for the Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home, will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 18 at the Hughes Community Center, 1000 E. Parkway Drive. The event will feature food trucks, games, auctions, music by Some Guy Named Robb, and Johnny Story as master of ceremonies. Admission is $5. Administrative Assistants Day Fundraiser Luncheon

MORRILTON — The seventh annual Administrative Assistants Day Fundraiser Luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 22 in the Multi-Purpose Building at the Conway County Fairgrounds. Special entertainment will be provided by Craig O’Neill and a mystery guest. There will be door prizes, and vendors will offer items for shopping. Sponsorship tables are available, beginning at $150.
