House OKs change to Medicaid plan notifications

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas lawmakers have voted to change notifications being sent to thousands of people on Arkansas' compromise Medicaid plan that tells them the program is ending to include information about a task force looking at alternatives for coverage.

The House voted 54-24 on Thursday and sent to the governor a proposal to add information about the task force to the notifications already approved by the Legislature. The notifications are being sent to those enrolling or renewing coverage in the "private option" that uses federal funds to buy private insurance for the poor.

Lawmakers extended the private option another year while the task force comes up with recommendations that could include some form of Medicaid expansion similar to the private option. Supporters say the task force information would clear up any confusion.
