Arkansas' all-Republican congressional delegation returns to Washington this week with the rest of Congress after a two-week break.
U.S. Sen. John Boozman of Rogers made several stops around the state, including the Harrison Regional Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet and Eaton Corp. in Mountain Home on Tuesday, the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas and Hytrol Conveyor Co. Inc. in Jonesboro on Tuesday, and the Arkansas Leadership Prayer Breakfast at the Governor's Mansion on Thursday.
On Thursday, U.S. Rep. Rick Crawford of Jonesboro spoke to a MacArthur Junior High EAST class to highlight the students' work with the Downtown Jonesboro Association on the Downtown Jonesboro Mural Project 2015. The students helped find an artist and pick a design for a mural to showcase the city's history and culture.
U.S. Reps. Bruce Westerman of Hot Springs and French Hill of Little Rock participated in a radio interview Wednesday with Tom Nichols on Hot Springs Village's KVRE-FM, 92.9, to discuss their first 100 days in Congress. On Monday, the two freshmen toured the Pine Bluff Arsenal. Hot Springs Village straddles the 2nd and 4th Congressional Districts.
Westerman attended the stamp dedication for Maya Angelou in Stamps and spoke Thursday night at the Columbia County Republican's Lincoln-Reagan Dinner in Magnolia. He also held an open house at his El Dorado office.
U.S. Rep. Steve Womack of Rogers made several stops in the district, including at Dow Chemical and at Rose Drug, both in Russellville, on Tuesday and at Five Rivers Distribution, the Van Buren Police Station and the Van Buren Rotary Club, all in Van Buren, on Thursday.
HILLARY CLINTON
Several media outlets reported Thursday evening that former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will announce her presidential bid online today at noon before making several stops in Iowa.
On Monday, CNN reported that Clinton had hired Karen Finney as strategic communications adviser and senior spokesman and Oren Shur as director of paid media. Finney was Clinton's deputy press secretary when Clinton was first lady, and worked on Clinton's 2000 U.S. Senate bid. Shur managed Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon's 2012 campaign and worked for the Democratic Governors Association in 2014. He will oversee Clinton's television, mail, radio and digital advertising.
MIKE HUCKABEE
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who left his Fox News show earlier this year while he considers a presidential bid, is to spend most of the week in Iowa, according to Politico, including at an education roundtable with 19 Kids and Counting stars, Arkansas' Duggar family. He is also scheduled to address the Iowa Family Leader Presidential Lecture Series. He was to attend the National Rifle Association convention in Nashville on Friday night.
Huckabee is scheduled to appear on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos today.
The show airs at 8 a.m. on KATV, Channel 7, in Little Rock and on KAIT, Channel 8, in Jonesboro. It appears at 9 a.m. on KHBS, Channel 40/29, in Fort Smith and at 10:30 a.m. on KHOG, Channel 40/29, in Rogers.
Hogan Gidley has joined Huckabee as a senior communications adviser. Gidley was previously executive director of HuckPAC, Huckabee's political action committee, and of the South Carolina Republican Party. Gidley was the communications director for Rick Santorum's 2012 presidential campaign.
