An unsettled weather pattern has rain chances in the forecast for the entire work week, the National Weather Service said.

Joe Goudsward, a senior forecaster with the agency's North Little Rock office, said the rainy week begins Monday with storms overspreading the entire state through the late morning and early afternoon, and producing locally heavy downpours. Amounts Monday are expected to largely range from 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches with some localized areas seeing 2 inches or more.

The rain won't be as widespread in successive days, but there will be chances Tuesday through Friday.

Goudsward said those chances will likely hover around the 30 percent to 40 percent mark each day with "showers off and on and precipitation for the remainder of the week."

He said there is not an indication of any organized severe weather threats, though an isolated strong storm can't be ruled out.

"But the odds aren't favorable," he said.

The preliminary extended forecast shows the chances for rain diminishing for Saturday and Sunday and temperatures in the mid- to upper-70s.

"Let's hope it stays that way," Goudsward said.
