4 hurt in 3 shootings; LR police see no ties

Little Rock police were investigating after four people were injured in three separate shootings over the weekend.

Two of the shootings occurred in the same area within a two-hour span, but police did not believe they were connected.

Officers responded at 10:57 p.m. Saturday to UAMS Medical Center, where Tiffany Bizzell was being treated for a gunshot wound in her right hip, according to a police report. Bizzell, 33, said she'd been sitting in her car outside Pic-Pac Liquor at 4407 W. 12th St. when she saw a group of eight or nine men involved in a "disturbance," the report states. She heard gunfire, then drove away and realized she'd been shot.

Her injuries were not life-threatening, police reported.

Police spokesman Lt. Sidney Allen said it appeared Bizzell was struck by a stray bullet.

"It looks like that this beef was between two guys in the parking lot and she was just in the parking lot," he said.

Officers searched the area but did not find a crime scene.

Bizzell could not provide descriptions of the men.

"She knew people to argue a lot in front of that place and didn't pay attention to the argument until she felt the shot and felt a burning sensation," Allen said.

One hour and 41 minutes later, police responded to a home at 2111 S. Tyler St., about a mile southwest of where Bizzell had been shot. Officers reported finding four men standing near a Toyota Camry in which a passenger, Okera Leonard, had a gunshot wound in his left buttock.

Leonard, 20, and the other men told officers they'd been at party at the residence and heard gunfire, but couldn't provide further details of the shooting, police said.

Leonard was taken to UAMS Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries.

A friend of Leonard's showed up at CHI St. Vincent Infirmary minutes later and said he'd also been shot at the party. Timothy Matthews, 22, told officers he'd seen a group of men attack Leonard at the house and heard shooting, according to a police report. Matthews was struck in his right ankle.

No arrests had been made in either shooting late Monday.

Allen said detectives noted the proximity and timing of the shootings, but hadn't found any links.

"Right now, looking at the narratives and talking to the detectives, they didn't see anything that could make them related," he said.

In a third shooting over the weekend, police were seeking a man accused of shooting his brother at their shared Little Rock home.

Officers responded at 11:46 p.m. Sunday to a residence at 3140 Center St., where Paul Onema, 38, was lying in the living room bleeding heavily from his thigh, a police report states. His grandfather told police that Onema's younger brother, 31-year-old James Onema, had shot his sibling during an argument over food.

The elder Onema brother was taken to UAMS Medical Center and treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.

Police searched the area for James Onema but made no arrests. He's described as black, 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds with a thin mustache. He was last seen wearing a dark shirt, bluejeans and black shoes.
