Rubio confirms for GOP conference in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY — U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida is the latest 2016 presidential candidate to announce plans to attend the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in Oklahoma City next month.

Oklahoma Republican Party officials confirmed Tuesday that Rubio will join several other potential GOP presidential contenders, including, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.

Elected to the U.S. Senate in 2010, Rubio formally announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for president on Monday.

The three-day event will be held at the Cox Convention Center at the end of May and is hosted by the Oklahoma Republican Party.

It will end with a presidential straw poll.
