Authorities in Benton are working to identify a thief who was caught on surveillance camera stealing a wreath from a home's front door.

The Benton Police Department on Monday released the video from the Thursday theft. It shows a woman carefully removing the wreath from the home's front door and then using a sleeve to wipe the area it was hanging from, apparently to conceal fingerprints that could have been left behind, said Benton Police Lt. Kevin Russell.

The theft happened late at night at a home in the Legacy Village subdivision, which runs off Boone Road.

Russell said police think the same woman may also be responsible for other home thefts reported in that neighborhood and other parts of the city in recent days, including one where another wreath was taken and some where potted plants were stolen.

Two people who commented on the video on the agency's Facebook page said they, too, had had wreaths stolen from their front doors, though those thefts were said to have occurred last year.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (501) 778-1171 or (501) 315-TIPS.
