A Maumelle man is accused of stabbing his wife in the arm and then setting their home on fire while she and her 6-year-old daughter were inside.

Daniel Earl Cecil, 43, was arrested Wednesday in Little Rock.

The Maumelle Police Department said in a statement that fire crews and police were called to the couple's home at 2 Prince Drive shortly before 6:30 p.m. Saturday for a blaze that left the structure a loss.

Cecil's wife told investigators Cecil stabbed her in the forearm and then used lighter fluid to set couches on the home in fire, said Capt. Jim Hansard. The girl, who Hansard described as the daughter of Cecil's wife, was not injured. She and her mother made it out of the structure on their own, Hansard added.

He said the motive in the case remains unclear.

"We are still investigating that aspect of it," Hansard said. "They were definitely in an argument."

Cecil faces two counts of attempted murder and one count each of first-degree domestic battery, arson and interference with emergency communications. He was being transported to the Pulaski County jail Wednesday afternoon, where he was set to be held without bail.
