Schools get grades in annual state report card

Arkansas public school districts Wednesday received from the Arkansas Department of Education their report cards, including letter grades.

Statewide, 162 schools received A's; 322 received B's; 365 received C's; 158 received D's; and 43 received F’s.

The grades are required by Act 696 of 2013, and are meant to be easier for parents and community members to understand, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette previously reported.

A school receiving between 270 to 300 points received an "A” grade, and those earning between 240 and 269 points got a “B. A "C " was given to campuses that earned 210 to 239 points. A total of 209 to 180 points resulted in a "D." Fewer than 180 points resulted in an "F."

The grades are based on school results on the Arkansas Benchmark and End-of-Course math and literacy exams; any year-to-year gains made on those tests; the size of the achievement gaps among student groups at a school; and, if applicable, a school's graduation rate.

Each school's report card can be seen here.

The report cards provide pages of data about each district’s test scores, demographics, teacher quality and more.
