3 arrested in Memphis girl’s shooting death

Memphis police have arrested three men in the Friday drive-by shooting of a 7-year-old girl.

Jordan Clayton, 21; Branden Brookins, 19, and Carl Johnson, 19, have been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Kristen Williams, who was shot while playing in the front yard of a home at 2674 Durby Circle late Friday afternoon, the Memphis Police Department said.

The night before, Memphis officers had responded to Regional One Hospital, where a 22-year-old man who had been shot in the 2600 block of Durby Circle refused to cooperate with police, the department said.

“At this time, we know that someone at that location was an intended target,” but that target isn’t clear, police said.

Brookins, Clayton an Johnson all have court dates set for Thursday; Johnson has an additional date set for Oct. 5 and Brookins for April 23, according to Shelby County jail records.

“All three suspects are members of local street gangs (Young Mob, Bloods and Gangster Disciples),” Memphis police added.
