Outgoing UA chancellor gives $1 million

The outgoing chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and his wife are donating $1 million in cash and deferred commitment to the university, according to a news release from the university.

The gift is part of the university's upcoming fundraising campaign, the news release stated. Chancellor G. David Gearhart, who is retiring at the end of July, announced the donation to a group of fundraising volunteers on April 10, the news release states.

The fundraising campaign, dubbed Campaign Arkansas, is in the organizational phase.

According to the news release, Gearhart called on others to also support the university.

“Jane and I wanted to make this gift to show our support for the University of Arkansas and our belief in higher education,” Gearhart said, according to the news release. “It is our hope that, through leading by example, others will follow suit and step up to support the flagship campus of Arkansas."
