Pay panel looks at raises for prosecutors

LITTLE ROCK — An independent committee that was formed to review Arkansas elected officials' salaries is beginning to look at whether the state's prosecutors deserve a pay raise.

The Independent Citizens Commission was scheduled to meet Thursday at the state Capitol to begin reviewing salaries for local prosecutors around the state. The panel was formed through a constitutional amendment approved by voters last year to review and adjust salaries for the state's top elected officials.

The commission earlier this year voted to more than double legislators' salaries and grant substantial pay raises to constitutional officers and judges. The Legislature voted to give the commission authority to set salaries for prosecutors.
