9 arrested in Memphis gas station mob attack

Authorities have arrested nine people so far in an April 10 mob attack at a Memphis gas station, police say.

A man said he was walking a woman to his vehicle about 4:20 p.m. at the BP gas station at 1336 Poplar Ave. when a "large mob" attacked him, Memphis Police Department spokesman Sgt. Alyssa Macon-Moore said in a news release.

The group of people attacked the man and his 2009 Dodge Caliber with their fists, causing about $1,000 in damage to the vehicle, the release states. The man received minor injuries but declined medical attention, Macon-Moore said.

Officers first arrested Joe Brittman, 19, as one of the participants in the attack and charged him with aggravated riot, simple assault and vandalism, the release states.

Police have arrested eight more people who purportedly participated in the attack since Thursday, including five minors ages 16 and 17, Moore said.

Other arrested were Denizell Gladney, 19, charged with aggravated riot and simple assault; Devin Hulbert, 19, charged with aggravated riot, burglary of a motor vehicle and simple assault; and Darion Milken, 18, charged with aggravated riot and simple assault.

Moore said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests could be made.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call (901) 528-2274.
