Couple helps Arkansas man escape burning vehicle

ASHDOWN — An Ashdown man narrowly escaped a burning vehicle with help from other drivers.

The Texarkana Gazette reported that Charles Henderson Jr. was pulled out of his Nissan Maxima by Bobby Hatcher, while Hatcher's wife, Traci, called 911. According to witnesses, the couple from Valliant, Okla. helped the man after he veered off U.S. Highway 71 and hit a concrete ditch.

When Bobby Hatcher reached Henderson, the car was already on fire, but a truck driver at the scene used a fire extinguisher from his truck to keep the fire down long enough for Henderson to be safely removed. The car was engulfed by flames soon after his removal.

According to Arkansas State Police Trooper Clayton McWilliams, Henderson was taken to a hospital in Texarkana for treatment of minor injuries.
