Eureka Springs man sentenced for meth distribution

A Eureka Springs man was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison and five years of supervised release for two counts of distribution of methamphetamine, one count of possession with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine and one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Conner Eldridge.

Fernando Canales-Mendoza, a Mexican citizen, was found guilty in a February jury trial, according to the news release.

An undercover Drug Enforcement Administration agent bought several ounces of methamphetamine from Canales-Mendoza for $1,400 to $1,500 per ounce, the news release stated.

"With this sentence, another positive step has been taken to assure that the families, especially children, in Carroll County can live in a community free of illegal drug trafficking and the violence and other crime that comes with it," Eldridge said in the news release. "Our office will continue to aggressively prosecute those responsible for bringing methamphetamine and other drugs into the Western District of Arkansas.”
