Police investigate 2 Searcy robberies

Searcy police are investigating two armed robberies that happened Friday, one at a Subway restaurant and another at a gas station.

About 10 a.m. Friday, officers were called to the Subway store at 3209 E. Race Ave., where employees said a man with a small handgun entered the restaurant and demanded money, Searcy Police Department spokesman Sgt. Steve Hernandez said in an email.

The man left the restaurant through the back door with an unknown amount of money and no injuries were reported during the robbery, Hernandez said.

The robber is described as a 6-foot-2, heavyset white man who was last seen wearing a gray mask, sunglasses and a dark jacket.

Police responded to another robbery about 1:30 p.m. at the Valero gas station at 1199 N. Maple St., Hernandez said in an email.

A 5-foot-6 white man wearing a blue shirt and pajama bottoms entered the station with a small handgun and demanded cash, the email states.

The man left the Valero and ran towards an apartment complex at 909 Holmes Road, police said.

Police questioned two men who were taken into custody after a traffic stop in the area, Hernandez said.

Officers Friday afternoon arrested Curtis Daniel Howard, 18, of Newport, for the Valero robbery, Hernandez said.

Howard has been charged with aggravated robbery and theft of property, and is being held at the White County jail in lieu of $75,000 bond, according to Hernandez.

Anyone with information about about these robberies is asked to call the Searcy Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at (501) 268-3531.
