3 injured in fight at McGehee High

McGEHEE -- Three students were injured in a fight at McGehee High School on Friday morning after one of them pulled a knife during the altercation, McGehee School District Superintendent Thomas Gathen said.

One of the students was still at the hospital receiving treatment for nonlife-threatening injuries Friday afternoon, he said, adding that all three involved in the fight received some type of medical treatment.

Gathen said the fight began at about 10 a.m. in a boys restroom at the high school, though the cause was unknown.

"We are still investigating," Gathen said.

Gathen said he locked down the school "as a precaution" after police were called. He said the incident was "an isolated one."

"We don't have a history of that type of thing happening here at McGehee. And I am thankful for that. We are also thankful this incident wasn't worse."

Gathen said he was unaware if any charges will be filed against the students. Messages left at the McGehee Police Department seeking further information weren't returned Friday.
