Dept. of Ho-Hum

Secret emails? What secret emails? It turns out that congressional investigators asked Hillary Clinton a few years ago (in 2012) if she had used a private email account as secretary of state. But she never answered the question, and neither did the State Department, which responded with one of those form letters that has no bearing on the question asked. Angry constituents get them from congressmen and other officials all the time when they get too nosy, or just worked up. It's one way to fend off a direct question; there are lots of others. Evasion has many varieties in government and out.

Ms. Clinton may not be very good at answering questions, but she's an expert at dodging them, having had years of experience at it--both in Arkansas and Washington.

A scandal-filled career will teach a "public servant" many a way to skip and dodge. Only now has it become known that Madam Secretary had a private email account or two at State, which she took the precaution of deleting before the rest of us caught on. But interest in such matters flags. It's not exactly earth-shaking news that our Lady Macbeth of Chautauqua is a devious character. By now it is less a discovery than commonplace.
