Bob Dylan to play April 30 at venerable Memphis spot

Music legend Bob Dylan and his band will make a stop at the Orpheum Theatre, 203 S. Main St., Memphis, at 8 p.m. April 30.

The band Needtobreathe will play the Walmart Arkansas Music Pavilion in Rogers on Friday.

The profoundly influential singer-songwriter is known for songs such as "Blowin' in the Wind," "Lay Lady Lay" and "Like a Rolling Stone." Dylan won a Grammy for album of the year with his 1997 work Time Out of Mind. His current album is Shadows in the Night, which features classic American songs, some of which are associated with Frank Sinatra.

Dancing beauty

The Western Arkansas Ballet will take audiences on a fairy tale journey when it presents The Sleeping Beauty, 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. April 26 at the ArcBest Corps Performing Arts Center, 55 S. Seventh St., Fort Smith.

Folk music

William Florian, once the lead vocalist for The New Christy Minstrels, takes audiences back to the 1960s with a tribute to folk music. "Those Were the Days," the latest in the Live on Stage NWA Series, starts at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Arend Arts Center, 1901 S.E. J St., Bentonville. Tickets are $25, $5 for students. Classic melodies

The Clinton Presidential Center's Great Hall, 1200 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock, will ring with the melodies of "Mendelssohn, Mozart & Brahms" as the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra presents the final concert of the 2014-15 Landers FIAT River Rhapsodies Series.

The ASO's Quapaw and Rockefeller string quartets and other musicians will present the concert of chamber music that features Mendelssohn's String Quartet in f minor, Op.80, Mozart's Oboe Quartet in F Major, K.370 and Brahms' String Quintet in G, Op.111 at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Screen tunes

The Symphony of Northwest Arkansas closes out its 60th anniversary season with its pops finale: "A Night at the Movies." Director Paul Haas will lead the symphony and special guest pianist Edward Neeman in a concert of music from silent films, midcentury classics and modern blockbusters. The AMP

Grammy-nominated Needtobreathe will bring its Tour De Compadres to the Walmart Arkansas Music Pavilion, 7 p.m. Friday. The rock 'n' roll band from South Carolina will be joined by Ben Rector, Drew Holcombe and The Neighbors and Colony House. Tickets are $27-$42 plus fees.

Then, on May 1, country music star Brantley Gilbert will be joined by Casey Donahew Band and Michael Ray to rock out on the AMP stage. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the concert starts at 7:30. Tickets are $25-$45.

Young thespians

Youths ages 10-18 who want to spend part of their summer learning the art of stagecraft get their chance with the Youth Theatre of Central Arkansas' Summer Intensive Program, June 1-27.

Sponsored by University of Central Arkansas Theatre, the month-long training session ends with public performances at 7 p.m. June 25-26 and 2 p.m. June 27 in UCA's Bridges/Larson Theatre, 201 Donaghey Ave.

Making magic

It's theater arts for all ages when the Hot Springs Village Players and the recreation department of the Hot Springs Village Property Owners Association present a one-day theater workshop May 2. The workshop will be made up of two sessions with three concurrent classes in each:

• Directing, makeup and scene painting, 10 a.m.-noon

• Acting, costume for character and set design, 1-3 p.m.

Roaring '20s

The Weekend Theater will unveil its 23rd season with 1920s flare at the 2015-16 Season Gala. Back in time

The Fort Smith Little Theatre is preparing for its early summer production with auditions, 7 p.m. Monday-Tuesday at the theater, 401 N. Sixth St., Fort Smith.

The Best of Everything, telling the story of a group of women in the 1950s, was written by Rona Jaffe, adapted by Julie Kramer and directed by Micki Voelkel and will be performed May 28-June 7. The cast calls for six women ages 20-45 and two to five men ages 20-60. Auditions will be cold readings from the script.

Traveling band

Wildwood Park brings a fairy tale to musical life for school children with its latest Art to Go touring production, visiting elementary schools, parks and libraries around the state, May 8-22.

The Bremen Town Musicians, based on the Brothers Grimm folktale, is an operetta with music by composers including Jacques Offenbach, Gioachino Rossini and Giuseppe Verdi and with lyrics by John Davis. Performances, directed by Bevan Keating, are 45 minutes long and will be followed by a question-and-answer session. Performance fee is $400.
