UAMS smoking-cessation group set for May

A free smoking cessation group is set to begin next month at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

The Freedom from Smoking group, led by certified tobacco treatment specialist and advanced practice nurse at UAMS Pat Franklin, will meet from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for seven Wednesdays, starting May 6, the university said in a news release.

Meetings will take place on the first floor in the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute’s Patient Support Pavilion, and free parking is available in UAMS parking deck 3 at the corner of Cedar Street and Capitol Avenue.

At each meeting, participants will have the opportunity to hear first-hand stories from former smokers and learn to manage stress, avoid weight gain and stay smoke free for life, according to the release.

Those interested in signing up are asked to call Franklin at (501) 944-5934 or by email at plfranklin@uams.edu.
