Man sought in Memphis gas station robbery

Police are searching for a man who robbed a Memphis gas station at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon.

About 1:15 p.m., a man rushed into the Mapco gas station at 5263 S. Third St. while several customers were inside shopping, Memphis Police Department spokesman Sgt. Alyssa Macon-Moore said.

The man then displayed a black, semi-automatic handgun and demanded money from the safe and cash register.

Customers ducked and ran out of the building as the cashier opened the register, Macon-Moore said. The man took an undisclosed amount of money from the register and fled north, police said.

The robber is a thin black man with a medium complexion, about 5-foot-6, wearing a black and orange Tennessee Volunteers pullover with an orange “T” on the front, black pants and a black skull cap, according to police.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call (901) 528-CASH.
