Showers and thunderstorms are possible across much of Arkansas on Thursday and an even stronger system is expected to move through the state Friday, the National Weather Service said.

It's part of a soggy forecast that rain chances in it "almost every day" through the middle of next week, the weather service said in a statement.

The Thursday system brings the potential for a "strong to severe storm" with heavy rain, large hail and strong winds to central and southern parts of the state, the statement said.

Then on Friday, a stronger system will move through the region. The Storm Prediction Center has the entire state under at least a slight risk of severe weather with parts of southwestern Arkansas under an enhanced risk, the next highest category.

Friday's storms will bring the possibility for "damaging winds and large hail," as well as more heavy rain, the statement said.

That system will exit the state to the east on Saturday, and Sunday should be free of storms, though the dry weather won't last.

"To start the work week, another southern stream system begins to move toward the region," the statement said, "and showers and thunderstorms are back in the forecast by Monday and last to early Wednesday."
