Teen leads police on chase in stolen truck, report says

A 17-year-old from Little Rock led authorities on a half-hour chase after officers tried to stop him as he drove a stolen truck, authorities said.

An arrest report shows Samuel Khabeer Jr. was arrested on charges including theft by receiving, fleeing and leaving the scene of an accident.

Police say Khabeer was driving a stolen truck with a stolen license plate and had been "shooting a weapon" when officers tried to stop him in Little Rock on Wednesday night.

According to the report, Khabeer fled in the truck for about 30 minutes before crashing in Benton. He was arrested about 9:15 p.m. at 123 N. Market St.

Police wrote in the report that Khabeer was "reckless and showed no regard for human life" during the pursuit.

He remained in the Pulaski County jail Thursday morning, where additional charges were listed, including speeding, driving without a license, eight counts of failure to obey a traffic device and eight counts of driving left of center.

Khabeer's bail was preliminarily set at $22,300, and a May 6 court appearance was scheduled.
