Winston's explanation still comes off fishy

For some odd reason, Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston met with Michigan Coach Jim Harbaugh and Wolverines quarterbacks coach Jedd Fisch for an episode on ESPN's Draft Academy.

It isn't like Harbaugh and Fisch, a Florida graduate, are still in the NFL and looking to draft the former Heisman Trophy winner.

Yet there they were, Harbaugh and Fisch in Michigan coaches attire in case a five-star recruit might be watching, asking Winston questions and bringing up the shoplifting incident in which he was accused of stealing crab legs.

They told him he has to address that in interviews and then almost coached him with his answer, basically telling him to bring it hard, fast and short.

Oh, and don't forget, someone who worked at the Publix grocery store told you it was OK to take the crab legs without paying. The same guy who told Winston to take a cake the week before.

Now some are going, oh, so he had a hook-up. Like that somehow is supposed to make him less guilty.

That's still stealing, and now the world knows he did it at least twice.

Having a hook-up is nothing more than pulling off an inside job.

Based on talent and ability, Winston deserves to be the No. 1 pick in next week's NFL Draft. He did great on the Wonderlic test at the NFL combine, reportedly making a 27, which is a good score considering the test is 50 questions in just 15 minutes.

What he needs to do is stop coming across like a spoiled jock who thinks he's entitled.

If ESPN wanted a really good segment on Winston, it might have considered siccing Jason Whitlock on him as an interviewer.

It is way too early in the NBA playoffs to be having the drama known as Rajon Rondo.

The Dallas Mavericks acquired Rondo for the playoffs, but in Tuesday's game against the Houston Rockets it looked like he not only didn't want to be there, he didn't care.

Now he's out with a back injury. No report on whether it was his spine.

It seemed like he quit on his team, and Coach Rick Carlisle benched him quickly and often.

Maybe Rondo is acting this way because he expects the Houston Rockets to eliminate the Mavs quickly.

Rondo becomes a free agent in July and is expected to be signed by the Los Angeles Lakers, the once proud franchise that needs more than a pouting point guard to get back to the top.

It is official. Satellite camps are a disgrace.

It is official because Alabama Coach Nick Saban said so this week in reaction to Penn State holding football camps in Charlotte, N.C., and Norfolk, Va. Last year Nittany Lions Coach James Franklin conducted camps in Atlanta and central Florida.

Look for the NCAA to enact legislation stopping satellite camps in a hurry. Saban has spoken.

Urban Meyer, head coach of defending national champion Ohio State, isn't shedding any light on the three-man quarterback battle during spring football.

Any coach in America would like to have this dilemma. The three quarterbacks are a combined 36-3 as starters for the Buckeyes.

Cardale Jones is 3-0 and led the Buckeyes to the national championship. He was third team when fall drills began last year, but after injuries to Braxton Miller, 22-2 as a starter and a two-time Big Ten Player of the Year, and J.T. Barrett, 11-1 as a starter, he was seamless in the transition to becoming a starter.

It was thought that Miller, who graduated in December, might transfer for his final year of college football, but he decided to stay and compete.

Those three guys are one of the reasons Ohio State will enter next season as the favorite to win another national championship.
