Entergy Arkansas seeks rate increase for 2016

Entergy Arkansas is seeking to raise electricity bills to improve its power grid and cover the cost of an El Dorado power plant, the company said in a filing with the Arkansas Public Service Commission.

The company on Friday laid out plans to recover costs for enhancements to the electrical grid and the purchase of a 495-megawatt unit at the Union Power Station near El Dorado, which would result in a $167 million total increase in customer bills.

A residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours would see their bill increase by about $13, or about 45 cents a day, the company said, and if approved, the raise would begin in early 2016.

“These investments will not only strengthen our grid but will allow us to leverage the industrialization that is happening in our region and maintain customer faits below the national and regional averages,” Hugh McDonald, president and CEO of Entergy Arkansas, said in a news release.
