UA women sign 6-1 power forward

Junior college All-American Angelica Amancio de Paulo has signed to play basketball for the Arkansas women’s basketball team.

De Paulo, a 6-1 power forward, attended New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, N.M., the past two seasons. She is Arkansas’ eighth signee for the 2014-15 season.

“Angelica is a very versatile offensive player,” Arkansas Coach Jimmy Dykes said. “She can shoot from distance or take on a defender one-on-one. She also has the size to post up if we need her to.

“Angelica has a chance to immediately impact our team, and I’m really looking forward to her arrival on campus.”

De Paulo averaged 16.5 points per game last season, shooting 43.2 percent from the floor, 40 percent from behind the three-point line and 73.7 percent from the free-throw line. She also averaged 6.2 rebounds per game and 1.5 assists per game while being named the Region 5 player of the year and receiving first-team All-America honors.

She is the second junior-college All-American signed by the Razorbacks, joining center Alecia Cooley of State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Mo.
