Maumelle teacher taken to hospital

Officers responded to Maumelle High School on Friday morning to assist Maumelle fire and Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services personnel with a teacher who had a car accident in the parking lot, police said. District officials said the teacher has been suspended with pay.

Police, who were called to 100 Victory Lane at 8:55 a.m., found the teacher, Sonya Kindall, 46, "unable to stand on her own," and her speech and movements "were slow," according to a report.

During an evaluation, officers were told Kindall had been involved in an accident in the parking lot when she arrived, police said. Kindall's 2013 Ford Fusion had struck the left, rear side of a 2005 Mercedes sedan parked beside her.

No one was injured in the accident, police said.

Kindall left her car and entered the school without notifying police, police reported.

Kindall was transported to Baptist Health Medical Center for further evaluation, police said.

Kindall was not arrested or charged with a crime, according to the report.

A blood sample was taken from Kindall at the hospital and submitted to the state Crime Laboratory for analysis, police reported.

The teacher has been suspended with pay pending an investigation, Pulaski County Special School District spokesman Deb Roush said Friday.
