Personal space

Theresa Timmons-Shamberger

Where I live: I live in a quaint, family oriented neighborhood in Maumelle with my husband, George.

Occupation: I am executive director of the Timmons Arts Foundation.

My favorite space is: Our living room (aka “The Zen”).

Why? Our living room is my Zen space — my favorite area in the house. It has a large window with a view of the backyard. Our living room is my cozy “go to” space to relax. The sleek, neutral palette of the living room, with pops of colors represented in fresh flowers, gives a calm and serene feel to the space. This is exactly what I need after a long day at work. Grabbing my throw and relaxing in “The Zen” allows me to look out to the backyard and enjoy the beauty of nature … turtles, rabbits, squirrels, birds, all appreciating the land. I can also grab a book and read in a peaceful space or “veg out” on television. The living room is where I can relax, relate, release.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Not do a thing to improve the space. I would, however, love to renovate the balcony. It’s not the living room per se, but it’s a part of my view of the backyard.
