Bullpen sleeps in UCA sweep

Central Arkansas swept a doubleheader Saturday, and didn't even have to use its bullpen to get there.

Connor Gilmore held New Orleans to six hits in an 8-0 victory in the first game Saturday at Bear Stadium in Conway, then Brandon Hagerly gave up one run in the first inning before shutting down the Privateers in a 6-1 UCA victory in the second game.

Gilmore (7-2) neither walked nor struck out any batters en route to his fourth consecutive complete game.

UCA (22-15, 12-8 Southland) scored 4 runs in the first inning, 2 in the fourth and 2 in the fifth.

Brad Dillenberger and Hayden Steele each each hit RBI singles and Logan Preston hit a two-run triple to make it 4-0. In the fourth, Travis Hull hit a two-run double.

Nick Rougeau hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth, and Tyler Langley followed with an RBI double. Langley and Matt Anderson each went 3 for 5, while Wesley Hoover, Hull and Steele each had two hits each.

Preston Marsh hit an RBI single to give New Orleans a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the second game, but UCA quickly took the lead back.

Deckard hit a two-run single in the first to make it 2-1, Preston hit a home run in the sixth to make it 3-1. Preston added a sacrifice fly in the seventh and Dillenberger hit a two-run double to make it 6-1.

Preston had 4 RBI on the day, while Dillenberger had 3 and Matt Anderson scored 4 runs.

ARKANSAS STATE 6,

APPALACHIAN STATE 1

Jeremy Brown hit an RBI double and Arkansas State took advantage of an error and a wild pitch in a five-run seventh inning of a victory Saturday at Tomlinson Stadium in Jonesboro.

The game was tied 1-1 when Tanner Ring gave ASU (17-22, 6-15 Sun Belt) a 2-1 lead with an RBI single. Brown then followed with an RBI double and Collin Massannelli drove in another run with a single to make it 4-1. Brown scored on a wild pitch and Massanelli capped the inning when he scored on a throwing error by pitcher Dallas DeVrieze error in the first game of a doubleheader.

ASU and Appalachian State (12-30, 4-17) played the the second game of the doubleheader late Saturday.

Matt Burgess went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI and Zach George extended his on-base streak to 56 games with a first-inning single.

David Owen (3-4) held Appalachian State to 5 hits and 1 run in the fifth inning, while striking out 6 and walking 4 in a complete-game victory.
