Man surrenders in fatal LR shooting

Authorities have arrested a man in a fatal shooting earlier this month in Little Rock.

Little Rock Police Department Lt. Sidney Allen said in an email that Alonzo Simmons, 25, turned himself in Tuesday after investigators obtained a first-degree murder warrant for him in the shooting death of 55-year-old Richard Eugene Cole.

Cole was found April 9 unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound to the head in the intersection of West 33rd and Ludwig streets. Shots had been reported fired in the area, which is a block west of John Barrow Road, shortly before 7 p.m. Cole died at the scene.

It wasn't clear how Simmons became a suspect. Allen said he declined to provide a statement to investigators when he turned himself in.

The death marked the city's seventh homicide.

Allen said Simmons was taken to the Pulaski County jail, though he was not yet listed as an inmate there on an online roster.
