Road projects coming for Benton County

State highway officials Monday announced several planned road improvement projects in Benton County.

Three resurfacing projects totaling 2.2 miles at Garfield and Gateway include:

• One mile of Clantonville Road, extending north from U.S. 62 in Gateway.

• Seven-tenths of a mile on Wimpy Jones Road in Garfield, from just north of Tall Oaks Lane to the city limits.

• One-half mile on Alvin Seamster Road in Garfield from Marshall Street to the city limits.

Work on the projects is expected to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting. The projects should be completed this summer.

Decco Contractors-Paving of Rogers was awarded the contract for the $556,630 project.

The project is being paid by the State Aid City Streets Program approved by lawmakers in 2011 and voters in 2012. The program provides $20 million annually from the state motor fuels tax to assist cities with projects selected by a nine-member panel of Arkansas mayors.

Five stretches on Arkansas 102 and one on Arkansas 72 will have surface friction improvement projects beginning in two to four weeks. Arkansas 102 in Bentonville is Southwest 14 Street.

Projects include:

• Four-tenths of a mile on Arkansas 72 from Bear Springs east to Horman Road.

• Two-tenths of a mile on Arkansas 102 from Southwest Coventry Boulevard west past Southwest Susana Street.

• Two-tenths of a mile on Arkansas 102 from Southwest Susana Street east to east of Mayflower Road.

• Three-tenths of a mile on Arkansas 102 from Southwest First Street to Southwest D Street.

• One-tenth of a mile from Southeast Benton Street to Southeast C Street.

• One-tenth of a mile from extending east from Derek Drive.

Baldwin Paving Company of Marietta, Ga., was awarded the contract at $894,700.

Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting. The project should be complete this spring.
