SAU to hold vigil for Nepal quake victims

Southern Arkansas University students in Magnolia will remember Tuesday the more than 4,000 who have died after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Nepal.

The candlelight vigil is set for 7:30 p.m. at the university’s bell tower, school officials said.

The school is also collecting donations in the SAU Reynolds Center foyer Tuesday that will be relayed to Red Cross workers aiding the rescue and recovery efforts.

SAU has 22 students from Nepal, and most are from the area of Kathmandu that was hardest-hit, SAU International Student Coordinator Jason Martisek said in a statement. None of the Nepalese students lost immediate family members, he added.
