No one was injured when a dump truck hauling bauxite caught fire Wednesday afternoon off Interstate 30 in Little Rock.

It happened about 12:45 p.m. as driver Shaun Whitaker of Benton was exiting the eastbound lanes at Scott Hamilton Drive.

Whitaker said he smelled and saw smoke, so he pulled the truck to the side of the exit ramp and got out. About a minute later, it went up in flames.

"I was more scared to death than anything," Whitaker said.

The cause of the fire isn't yet known.

The wreck blocked the exit for a time, though it reopened about 1:15 p.m.
