Memphis tops Arkansas State

Memphis took advantage of a five-run seventh inning to come back and defeat Arkansas State 8-3 Tuesday night at Tomlinson Stadium in Jonesboro.

ASU (18-24) led 3-1 when Memphis (30-13) put together its big inning, fueled by Tucker Tubbs’ grand slam to left field off ASU’s Tanner Kirby that made it 6-3. It was Tubbs’ 13th home run of the season.

Colton Hathcock didn’t allow a run off one hit in two-thirds of an inning to record the victory. Trey McNickle came on in the eighth inning and didn’t allow a hit to earn his first save.

Zach George and Joe Schrimpf led ASU with two hits each, and Jeremy Brown accounted for the Red Wolves’ lone RBI as ASU’s other two runs scored on wild pitches. George extended his nation-high on-base streak to 59 games.

Kane Barrow had three hits for Memphis, while Tubbs had two and drive in five.
