PEA RIDGE -- The fastest high school boys runner in the 4A-1 Conference this year depends on the race being used to determine that factor.

Shiloh Christian's Adler Goode and Prairie Grove's Sydney Walker continued their stalemate Tuesday as each sprinter came away with one first-place finish, and each of them praised their counterpart during the conference meet at Blackhawk Stadium.

"Adler is a great athlete," Walker said. "He's a fast guy with a great top end, and it's a battle every time I meet him. I have to have a perfect block start, or I'll never beat him. I think my race is progressing, and I'm hoping at state there's going to be a race."

Goode continued his season-long dominance in the 100-meter dash with his time of 10.86 seconds while Walker was second at 11.04. Walker returned the favor in the 200 with his 22.47 time to Goode's 22.76.

Walker became a double winner when he took the 400 with his time of 52.73 seconds, while Goode helped Shiloh Christian earn wins in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Both runners, though, balked at the idea of a 150-meter race to settle the score.

"Sydney has the most endurance of anyone in my life," Goode said. "He can run a 400 in 51, then take a deep breath and come back to run the 200. I feel like I'm going to throw up. I'm dead tired right now.

"I'll keep my 100 and let him have the 200. I may have beaten him in the 200 once, but I think I'm getting too fat to run the 200. I'm at 197 right now -- that football weight."

Pea Ridge ran away with the girls team title as the Lady Blackhawks compiled 223 points, while Gentry was a distant second with 116.5. Mikhaela Cochran paced Pea Ridge and won the high-point honors with 50 points while qualifying for the Class 4A state meet in five events.

Cochran won the 100 hurdles (17.45) and the discus (106 feet, 9 inches), then finished second in the 300 hurdles, the shot put and the high jump. Pea Ridge also picked up first-place finishes from Vanessa Wing in the 400 (1:04.21) and the long jump (15-8), the 4x100 relay team of Wing, Emma Pitts, Gloria Vargas and Ashtyn Mondy (53.56), the 4x400 team of Mondy, Vargas, Kieara Bryant and Wing (4:38.86) and Kieleigh Williams in the pole vault (7-6).

"I have a really good group of girls, and they want to know where we can score points in this and that," Pea Ridge coach Heather Wade said. "They're very team oriented, where most may see track as an individual sport. There's a few meets where they will say 'I'll do this for the team to get us some points' because they want to win."

Gentry took the boys team title with only two first-place finishes -- Zach Ellis in the discus (134-6) and Cole Cripps in the pole vault (13-0). Prairie Grove and Berryville finished tied for second with 98 points.
