State songwriters open Wildwood concert series

Arkansas singer-songwriter/guitarists Trey Johnson and Dave Almond will perform at the first edition of a House Concert Series at 7 p.m. today at Wildwood Park for the Arts. Admission is a suggested donation of $15.

Johnson is from North Little Rock and Almond is from near Hope. The duo has a new album, Are We Rollin'?

The performance will take place in Wildwood's Pavilion in the Asian Woodland Garden. In case of rain, the concert will move indoors.

The House Concert Series will continue May 21 with Bonnie Montgomery and Dan Weber on June 17.

Young Guns and My Brother My Friend will perform at 9 p.m. today at Juanita's. Admission is $5.

Nail, who attended Arkansas State University at Jonesboro, grew up in Kennett, Mo. He released a debut single, "Memphis," in 2002, but it took five years before his first album, I'm About to Come Alive, came out. The album featured a duet with Miranda Lambert and songs co-written by Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts and Kenny Chesney. The title cut is Nail's version of a song on a 2003 album by rock band Train. He has since released The Sound of a Million Dreams in 2011 and I'm a Fire in 2014.

Gorilla Music presents a "Battle of the Bands" at 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10.

Country singer Whiskey Myers will perform at 9 p.m. today at the Rev Room. Admission is $18.

Hatebreed will headline a metal show Friday. The 8:30 p.m. show will open with sets by Abandon the Artifice and Sychosys. Tickets are $17 in advance or $20 the day of the show.

James McMurtry will perform Saturday, and Max Gomez will open the 8:30 p.m. show. Tickets are $15.

McMurtry is touring to promote his latest and 12th album, Complicated Game, released in February. The album features guest appearances by noted musicians, including Ivan Neville, Dirk Powell, Danny Barnes, Quintron, Doyle Bramhall II, Derek Trucks and Benmont Tench of Tom Petty's band, The Heartbreakers.

Adam Carroll and Chris Carroll -- husband and wife -- will perform at 9 p.m. Friday. Admission is $8.

Adam Carroll, based in Austin, Texas, has released seven albums. Hayes Carll, a fellow Texan (and Hendrix College at Conway graduate), has said of Carroll: "I used to skip my own gigs to go watch him." Adam Carroll's songs have been recorded by Band of Heathens, Slaid Cleaves and Carll. His latest album, Let It Choose You, came out in 2014. His wife, who was born in Canada, recently released her debut album, Trouble & Time.

Randy Harsey will perform Saturday, and the 9:30 p.m. show will open with sets by Weedhorse and Whalefire. Admission is $5.

Harsey's debut album, Need to Know, is set for release Saturday. He also plays drums in The Dangerous Idiots, an Aaron Sarlo project (as is Weedhorse, a two-man band that features Sarlo and Adrian Bozeman of Peckerwolf).
