5th Run With Son to be held Aug. 15

Geyer Springs First Baptist Church will host its fifth annual Run With the Son 5K on Aug. 15 at 12400 Interstate 30.

The 5K run/walk will begin at 8 a.m. followed by a 1-mile fun run and 100-yard “tot trot” for children ages 2-5. An awards ceremony will be held following all races at 10 a.m.

Advance registration for the 5K run/walk is $20. Cost is $25 on race day. Participants who preregister will receive a Nike moisture control shirt. Advance registration for the 1-mile fun run is $10. Cost is $15 on race day. The “tot trot” is $10. Registration forms and information are available at gsfbc.org/rwts.

Proceeds from this year’s race will benefit two addiction ministries, Breaking the Chains and Renewal Ranch.

Four Noble Truths is workshop topic

The Ecumenical Buddhist Society of Little Rock will host a workshop on the Four Noble Truths, a cornerstone of Buddhism, beginning at 7 p.m. Aug. 10. The sessions will continue at 7 p.m. Aug. 17, 24 and 31.

The course will include the Buddha’s teachings of the four truths as seen through the lens of Theravada Buddhism and scriptures in the Pali Canon. Participants will learn about the meaning of the Four Noble Truths, how they fit into the rest of the teachings of Buddhism and how to use them in practice.

Author to present ‘Good Clean Fun’

Author and Bible study writer Liz Curtis Higgs will present “Good Clean Fun: An Evening Bathed in Laughter” at 7 p.m. Sept. 18 at Balboa Baptist Church, 415 Ponce de Leon Drive, Hot Springs Village. The event is for men and women. Tickets are $10 and available by calling the church at (501) 922-0155.

Higgs is best known for her “Bad Girls of the Bible” series, which features contemporary, fictionalized stories of “bad girls” such as Jezebel and Delilah, as well as scriptural teaching from the Bible. Her latest book is It’s Good to Be Queen: Becoming as Bold, Gracious and Wise as the Queen of Sheba. She will discuss lessons from her life and from the book during a women-only retreat at 9 a.m-3 p.m. Sept. 19. Cost is $30 and a registration form is available online at arwomensretreat.com.

Datta Kriya yoga seminar offered

The Arkansas House of Prayer, 20900 Chenal Parkway, will host a Datta Kriya yoga workshop at 5:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The workshop will be led by Shabari Ursula Honegger.

The practice of Datta Kriya yoga includes breathing exercises, hand gestures and gentle, whole-body exercises suitable for participants of all ages. The workshop is open to anyone seeking silence and to people of all faith backgrounds.
